PRF registers seven deaths from accidents and nearly a thousand high-speed infractions during Carnival, in PB

Seven deaths were recorded on Paraiba roads during Carnival, along with nearly a thousand speed violations.

During the Carnaval Operation 2026, held from February 13 to 18, the Federal Highway Police (PRF) in Paraíba reported seven fatalities and 997 instances of speeding violations. The operation's statistics reveal a worrying trend in road safety during the festive period, with a total of 39 accidents causing seven deaths and 35 injuries.

The first fatal incident occurred on the night of February 13, when a pedestrian was struck near João Pessoa, followed by a tragic collision on February 14 involving a vehicle that resulted in the deaths of five occupants after a frontal impact with a truck. Additionally, the seventh death occurred early on the morning of February 15 when a motorcyclist lost control and fell off the motorcycle in the city of Patos.

These incidents underscore the ongoing challenges of road safety during Carnival festivities in Brazil, emphasizing the importance of law enforcement initiatives such as the ‘Lei Seca’ (Dry Law) aimed at reducing alcohol-related accidents. While the data from 2025 recorded only one fatality, the stark increase in 2026 highlights a concerning escalation in road safety issues.
