The value of Latvia's goods exports rose by 3.7% last year; the most important product - wooden products

Latvia's goods export value increased by 3.7% last year, with wooden products being the most significant item.

In 2025, compared to 2024, the export value adjusted for calendar and seasonal effects increased by 4.5%, while imports rose by 7%. Notable increases were observed in exports of mineral products, which grew by €353.5 million or 24.7%, live animals and animal products by €212.3 million or 22.4%, and machinery and mechanical devices along with electrical equipment by €135.6 million or 4.7%. Conversely, there were declines in export values in plant products by €66.4 million or 5.1%, and wood and wood products as well as charcoal by €38.1 million or 1.3%.

The key commodities in Latvia's exports last year included wood, wooden products, and charcoal, constituting 15.3% of the total export volume, followed by electrical devices and equipment at 10.2%, and mineral fuels, oil, and refined products at 8.5%. The wooden products, which are critical to Latvia's export economy, were predominantly exported to the United Kingdom, accounting for 24.8% of the total, followed by Sweden at 9.3% and Lithuania at 7%.

This export data indicates the ongoing reliance of Latvia's economy on its natural resources, particularly timber and related products, while also highlighting areas of growth such as mineral products and machinery. As the economy adjusts to changing markets, the diversification of exports will be key to sustaining growth and addressing trade imbalances, particularly in sectors that have seen decreasing export values over recent years.
