"Via Lietuva" will renew more than 100 pedestrian crossings this year
The company Via Lietuva will upgrade over 100 pedestrian crossings this year with a budget of β¬4.95 million to improve pedestrian safety.
Via Lietuva has announced plans to renovate more than 100 pedestrian crossings in Lithuania this year, having already begun preparations last year. Contracts have been signed for the restoration work on 102 crossings, which will be financed with a total budget of β¬4.95 million, including VAT. The company's focus is on creating a systematic approach to pedestrian safety rather than implementing isolated solutions.
The upgrades will add directional lighting at crossings and introduce traffic safety islands on wider roads, as well as speed-reducing bumps in other areas. Furthermore, the crossings will be made accessible for visually impaired individuals with the installation of tactile surfaces. These enhancements aim to mitigate risks and improve safety for vulnerable road users, especially pedestrians, aligning with Lithuania's long-term road safety policy.
Last year, Via Lietuva successfully renovated and newly established 113 pedestrian crossings. The continued commitment to pedestrian infrastructure is a significant step in enhancing urban safety and ensuring that pedestrian needs are addressed effectively as traffic patterns evolve in the country.
