By reconstructing the road, three bridges will be demolished at once: work will start soon

The Lithuanian company YIT Lietuva will soon begin reconstructing three bridges over the Jūra River at a cost of 11.1 million euros, addressing significant structural issues and adhering to environmental requirements due to the project's location within a Natura 2000 area.

The Lithuanian state roads authority has commissioned YIT Lietuva to undertake major reconstruction work on three bridges over the Jūra River. These bridges are in critical disrepair, with structural damages such as corrosion and cracked concrete posing safety risks. The project, valued at 11.1 million euros including VAT, is set to address these pressing issues and ensure the longevity and usability of these essential infrastructures for traffic flow.

As the bridges are located within a Natura 2000 area, the project will have to adhere to strict environmental regulations. Martynas Gedaminskas, the head of 'Via Lietuva', highlighted the importance of implementing additional environmental measures which will involve time restrictions during construction to protect local ecosystems and facilitate the migration of animals. This underscores the balancing act between infrastructure development and ecological preservation.

The need for this reconstruction has become increasingly urgent as officials identified that the structural integrity of the bridges is severely compromised, with damaged metal beams and crumbling concrete posing significant safety hazards. The work is expected to not only enhance the structural safety of the bridges but also improve the overall travel experience for motorists. This effort represents a key investment in Lithuania’s infrastructure and environmental stewardship, aiming to mitigate any negative impacts on the surrounding natural habitat during the construction process.
