"Via Lietuva" has committed to repairing over 100 critically damaged bridges by the end of 2028, enhancing safety and regional connectivity in Lithuania.

"Via Lietuva" has announced a significant initiative to repair more than 100 critically damaged bridges across Lithuania by the end of 2028. According to Transportation Minister Juras Taminskas, the repairs of these bridges are essential not only for improving road safety but also for revitalizing local communities by providing better access to health services and employment opportunities. In the last year alone, 29 bridges were fully reconstructed, while maintenance work was carried out on another 160, highlighting the urgency and scale of the repair effort.

The importance of bridges and viaducts extends beyond mere transportation; they are crucial infrastructure elements that support national security and mobility. Martynas Gedaminskas, the head of "Via Lietuva", emphasized that these structures form the backbone of Lithuania’s road system and their maintenance directly impacts traffic safety and the accessibility of regions. The systematic approach to bridge repair will ensure that these critical infrastructures are not just maintained but also enhanced, fostering a safer travel environment for all citizens.

The upcoming years have been designated as the 'bridge repair years', with 2026 marked particularly for extensive restoration work. The attention to this infrastructure project underscores a commitment to averting delays in repair processes, which could have cascading effects on transportation efficiency and safety within the country. The timely execution of these repairs will contribute significantly to Lithuania's overall infrastructure resilience and safety standards.
