Hellenic Train: Disruption of traffic on the section between Lagynes - Ormenio due to flood phenomena
Train services between Lagynes and Ormenio in Greece have been suspended due to severe flooding in the Evros River region.
Hellenic Train announced the suspension of rail services on the route between the Lagynes and Ormenio stations due to flooding caused by the Evros River. The decision was made following an order from the Greek railway infrastructure manager, OSE. This disruption is related to significant weather conditions affecting the area, and the situation remains under close monitoring as more information becomes available.
As a result of the suspension, specific train routes including 1682 (Alexandroupoli – Orestiada) and 1683 (Orestiada – Alexandroupoli) will be replaced by bus services, with some intermediate stops excluded. Similarly, routes 1680 (Alexandroupoli – Ormenio) and 1681 (Ormenio – Alexandroupoli) are also being replaced by bus transport without any stops in several local areas. The implementation of these changes reflects the ongoing impact of the severe weather on transportation infrastructure in Greece.
The Hellenic Train has indicated that the suspension of these services will remain in effect until further notice, thereby affecting commuters and travel in the region significantly. Local authorities and railway services are urged to cooperate in ensuring the safety of passengers and effective communication regarding alternative travel arrangements as these adverse weather conditions persist, prompting a reevaluation of transportation logistics in the affected areas.
