"Bite Latvia" stops 3G network operations in Sigulda, Salaspils, Ādaži, and Ropaži regions

Telecommunications operator SIA "Bite Latvia" has halted its 3G network operations in several regions as part of a nationwide transition to 4G and 5G technologies.

SIA "Bite Latvia", a major mobile telecommunications operator, has officially discontinued its 3G network services in the municipalities of Sigulda, Salaspils, Ādaži, and Ropaži as of 2 AM this morning. This move is part of a broader strategy by the company to gradually phase out 3G coverage throughout Latvia. The objective is to allocate existing resources more effectively for the development of faster and more efficient 4G and 5G technologies.

According to Aleksandrs Beļajevs, the head of the Radiotīkla department at "Bite Latvia", the transition from outdated infrastructure to modern 4G and 5G solutions will enhance frequency utilization, allow for significantly faster data transmission, provide more stable connections, and improve call quality. This approach is expected to benefit many users across the country as the telecommunications landscape continues to evolve.

Last year, "Bite Latvia" had already shut down its 3G services in most urban areas and regions, including Zemgale, Vidzeme, Kurzeme, and Latgale. The complete discontinuation of the 3G network across Latvia is projected to be finalized by the spring of this year. However, the company has noted that the discontinuation of the 3G network could impact older devices and SIM cards, prompting customers to contact "Bite Latvia" in case of any uncertainties about their service compatibility.
