"Bite Latvia" will cease 3G network operation in several districts of Vidzeme on Wednesday night

Mobile network operator SIA "Bite Latvia" will cease 3G network operations in several districts of Vidzeme, including Sigulda, Salaspils, Ādaži, and Ropaži on February 18.

Bite Latvia, a mobile communications operator, has announced the discontinuation of its 3G network operations in several districts of Vidzeme, Latvia, starting from February 18 at 2 AM. This move is a part of the company's transition towards more advanced mobile communication technologies, specifically 4G and 5G, allowing for better resource utilization and technological upgrades. The decision affects local areas including Sigulda, Salaspils, Ādaži, and Ropaži, as part of a phased plan to discontinue 3G coverage across the whole country.

The management at Bite Latvia, specifically the head of the Radiotīkla department, Aleksandrs Beļajevs, emphasized that shutting down the outdated 3G infrastructure will open the way for enhanced usage of frequencies. This transition is expected to enable significantly faster data transmission, more stable connections, and improved call quality, benefitting users in the long run. Such upgrades align with global trends where telecom companies are shifting focus towards more competitive and efficient network technologies.

Last year, Bite Latvia had already turned off its 3G network in most parts of the country, especially across urban areas and districts in regions like Zemgale, Vidzeme, Kurzeme, and Latgale. The upcoming cessation of the 3G service in Vidzeme represents a continued commitment to modernizing the telecommunications infrastructure, thereby ensuring that consumers have access to higher quality mobile services as the nation progresses into more advanced digital communication arenas.
