In SLP, 'Aldea de Los Abuelos' nursing home is closed; it operated under unsanitary conditions

Authorities in San Luis Potosí closed the 'Aldea de Los Abuelos' nursing home after rescuing 22 elderly individuals due to health risks from poor sanitary conditions.

In a joint operation, state authorities in San Luis Potosí rescued 22 elderly individuals from the private nursing home 'Aldea de Los Abuelos' due to alarming sanitary irregularities that endangered their health. The State Commission for Protection against Sanitary Risks (Coepris) shut down the facility after discovering serious issues, including non-chlorinated water, broken windows, dirty bathrooms, and inadequate hygiene in the kitchen and dining areas. This closure highlights ongoing concerns regarding the safety of elderly care facilities in the region.

Following the closure, the rescued elderly individuals were moved to a government shelter known as Casa de los Potosinos, where they will receive comprehensive care and temporary accommodation free of charge. The state’s Integral Family Development (DIF) program will provide legal representation, psychological support, and social work assistance to aid their reintegration back into families or communities. The government emphasized its commitment to safeguarding the vulnerable elderly population, ensuring they receive dignified and safe living conditions.

The 'Aldea de Los Abuelos' nursing home had been reported to authorities on social media back in May 2025 for its unsanitary conditions, drawing attention to the need for stricter regulations and oversight in nursing homes. This incident raises significant awareness of the importance of maintaining high caregiving standards within such facilities and ensuring the protection of the elderly, who often rely heavily on institutional care for their wellbeing.
