After eight years, FG begins N28bn Maiduguri-Monguno road work
The Nigerian federal government has resumed rehabilitation work on the Maiduguri-Monguno road after a significant delay of eight years due to security concerns.
The federal government of Nigeria has announced the resumption of rehabilitation works on the Maiduguri-Monguno road corridor, a project that has been delayed for eight years primarily due to insecurity in the region. Director of Information from the Federal Ministry of Works, Muhammad Ahmad, revealed these developments during a recent project tour and inauguration ceremony for another road work in Maiduguri. This road project, which was initially awarded in 2018, is seen as a critical infrastructure project for improving connectivity in the conflict-affected northeastern state of Borno.
Ahmad emphasized that security assurances have been provided by both the National Security Adviser and the military to ensure safe working conditions for the rehabilitation team. He acknowledged the prevalent security issues that have hindered progress not just on this roadway but across northern Nigeria. The commitment from the military to offer protection signifies an essential step towards mitigating the risks associated with ongoing insurgency problems in the area.
The project, which spans 105.5 kilometers, aims to restore vital transportation links that are crucial for economic revitalization and the movement of goods and services in Maiduguri and its surroundings. With effective government action and the resumption of construction, the rehabilitation of this road may enhance local access and encourage development in a region that has suffered considerable turmoil because of prolonged conflicts.
