The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially approved a significant infrastructure project involving the construction of a 420-kilometre dual carriageway that will connect Akwanga in Nasarawa State to Gombe State through Plateau and Bauchi States. The announcement was made by the Director of Information at the Federal Ministry of Works, Mohammed Abdullahi, during a media tour focused on the ongoing rehabilitation of the Bauchi–Gombe Federal Highway. This new road project is part of a broader initiative aimed at enhancing road infrastructure, which is seen as crucial for stimulating economic growth, particularly under the current administration led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Abdullahi emphasized that the dual carriageway is a pivotal undertaking and is categorized as the fourth leg in a series of legacy road projects initiated by the Federal Executive Council. Other notable projects include the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway, the Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway, and the Calabar–Ebonyi–Abuja Superhighway. These projects are strategically designed to interconnect various regions across Nigeria, aiming to foster economic activities and improve transportation efficiency throughout the country.

The construction of this road is particularly significant as it highlights the government’s commitment to addressing infrastructure deficits and enhancing connectivity between states.
