NITDA trains lawmakers’ spouses on digital governance
The National Information Technology Development Agency in Nigeria has initiated a training program for the spouses of lawmakers to enhance their digital skills and well-being.
In Abuja, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), in collaboration with the House of Representatives Spouses Association, has launched a two-day capacity-building program aimed at enhancing the digital leadership and emotional well-being of the spouses of House members. The initiative, themed "Empowering Women for the Digital Future: Leadership, Wellbeing and Opportunity," includes training on digital literacy, cybersecurity, financial empowerment, entrepreneurship, and mental resilience, which are particularly pertinent given the challenges faced by spouses of public officials.
During the opening ceremony, Fatima Tajudeen Abbas, the wife of Nigeria's Speaker of the House of Representatives, emphasized the critical role emotional and mental health play in the lives of these spouses, who often deal with high expectations and public scrutiny. She pointed out that although their roles are significant, they frequently remain unrecognized in terms of the emotional and mental burdens they carry, and this training program aims to equip them better for their responsibilities.
The program not only seeks to improve the spouses' digital skills but also aims to foster a supportive community among them, enabling better understanding and management of their public responsibilities. By enhancing their capabilities, the initiative underscores the importance of digital governance as a tool for empowerment, ultimately contributing to a more effective partnership in the realm of public service.
