Govt, private sector unite for trade digitalisation

The Nigerian government and private sector are collaborating to enhance trade digitalisation, with awareness programs scheduled to improve stakeholder readiness for a new technology-driven trade environment.

The National Single Window Secretariat, together with the Nigeria Customs Service, has launched a nationwide engagement program aimed at enhancing stakeholders' confidence in the upcoming transition to a digital trade system, set to be officially launched later this month. This initiative is taking place across major cities including Lagos, Port Harcourt, and Kano, highlighting the government's proactive approach to prepare for a more integrated and efficient trade framework.

During the sensitisation sessions, key players from Nigeria’s trade ecosystem met to discuss the implications of the digital system, which seeks to minimize delays, enhance transparency, and ultimately improve Nigeria’s competitiveness on the global stage. Tola Fakolade, Director of the National Single Window Secretariat, emphasized the importance of thorough preparation among both government and private sector participants to ensure a smooth transition to this tech-driven framework.

The digitalisation of trade in Nigeria represents a significant step towards modernising its trade processes, aligning with international standards, and attracting foreign investment. By fostering collaboration between the government and private sector, this initiative aims not only to streamline operations within Nigeria but also to position it as a key player in global commerce, thus potentially transforming its economic landscape for the better.
