Police raid captures timber trucks overloaded by more than 17 tons

Latvian police conducted checks and found several timber trucks from Lithuania exceeding weight limits, with one truck exceeding the allowable weight by over 17 tons.

On February 11, the Latvian State Police conducted checks across the country to ensure cargo transporters comply with established weight limits. During these efforts, they identified several timber trucks with Lithuanian license plates that exceeded the permissible vehicle mass, with one case involving a transporter that was overloaded by 17 tons. Additionally, two of the timber trucks were found to be operating without the necessary oversized and heavy cargo transport permits.

Specifically, in the evening of February 11, officers from the State Police's Road Transport Monitoring Department conducted a compliance check on a 'Scania' timber truck registered in Lithuania in Ķekava municipality. They discovered that the truck's actual mass reached 69,492.5 kg, significantly exceeding the allowable weight for such vehicles. The transporter presented a permit for oversized and heavy cargo during this control, but the actual mass exceeded the permissible limit by 17,492.5 kg, raising serious safety and regulatory concerns.

These proactive measures by the Latvian police highlight the ongoing efforts to maintain road safety and enforce regulations related to freight transport, especially with foreign carriers. Overload conditions pose serious risks not just to the vehicle operators but also to other road users, prompting the authorities to intensify monitoring and compliance checks in response.
