In a significant operation, the Latvian State Police uncovered around 11 kilograms of cocaine and 3 kilograms of marijuana while conducting a search at an apartment in Riga. This seizure marks the largest quantity of cocaine confiscated by the police since 2019, indicating a serious ongoing issue with drug trafficking in the area. The police had been tracking individuals involved in the drug trade in the Riga region, primarily focusing on those distributing cocaine.

On March 8, authorities arrested two men born in 2000 and 2002, who reportedly had not been on the police radar previously. The raid was carried out as an emergency search at the residence of the 2002-born man, where the vast majority of the drugs were found. Another suspect's apartment yielded additional drugs, including 10 grams of cocaine and 20 grams of marijuana. The total estimated street value of the confiscated substances is reportedly around one million euros, showcasing the significant financial implications of the drug trade.

The court has initially denied a request to detain the arrested individuals, which raises concerns about how such decisions can affect ongoing investigations and the fight against drug-related crime. The situation highlights the challenges faced by law enforcement in addressing drug trafficking and the importance of continuing efforts to disrupt such operations within urban areas like Riga.
