A disturbing case of newborn trafficking has emerged in Ludhiana, Punjab, where police have uncovered an organized gang involved in the sale of infants. Authorities arrested five women, including the mother of the newborn, a nurse, a doctor, and the buyer. The arrested individuals were accused of selling a baby girl born on February 13 for 2.1 lakhs. The transaction was conducted with the help of an intermediary, and the payment was made online.

According to Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Sameer Verma, three other accomplices remain at large as police continue their investigation into the gang's activities. The baby was sold to a childless couple from Nangal village in Moga district, reflecting a troubling intersection of economic hardship and illegal trafficking practices. The entire scheme was orchestrated through a private nursing home in Ludhiana, led by Dr. Manmeet Kaur, highlighting how medical professionals can be complicit in such heinous acts.

The investigation has revealed that the family of the baby was undergoing significant financial difficulties, which led them to agree to the illegal sale. The child's father is said to be from Uttar Pradesh, raising concerns about the broader socio-economic factors contributing to child trafficking in the region. This incident underscores the urgent need for stringent measures to combat child trafficking and protect vulnerable families from exploitation.
