Bought a baby, then started pretending that I am pregnant... the story of a child trafficking gang

A couple in India purchased a newborn girl for 300,000 rupees and pretended to be pregnant after failing to conceive.

In a shocking case that has garnered police attention, a couple in Eluru, Andhra Pradesh, took the drastic step of purchasing a newborn baby girl for 300,000 rupees after enduring numerous failed attempts to conceive, including IVF treatments. Following the purchase, the woman began to feign pregnancy in order to present the child as their biological offspring, highlighting the desperate measures some might resort to in the face of infertility.

The case came to light when police in Eluru uncovered a child trafficking gang involved in the illegal sale of infants. The gang operated by selling newborns for money and subsequently attempting to create fake documentation to legitimatize the transactions. A probe into suspicious birth registration records unearthed this troubling network, shedding light on the dark underbelly of child trafficking in the region.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer D. Shravan Kumar reported that during the investigation, two specific cases were identified where newborns were sold illegally. Following the discovery of discrepancies in birth registration documents, authorities initiated an in-depth investigation that revealed a larger pattern of child trafficking, emphasizing the need for heightened vigilance and stricter enforcement of laws pertaining to child welfare and protection in Indian society.
