Revelation of newborn trafficking in Himachal, 9 accused arrested, network spread across 2 states

Himachal Pradesh police have uncovered an inter-state gang involved in the trafficking of newborns, arresting nine individuals including seven women.

The Himachal Pradesh police have successfully dismantled an inter-state gang responsible for the trafficking of newborns. As of now, nine people, including seven women, have been arrested in connection with this disturbing case, which involved the illegal acquisition of infants who were then sold to childless couples. The operation came to light on February 21 when the Dehra police rescued a minor, acting on intelligence gathered through a complaint lodged by a local resident.

The details of the case began to unfold after a complaint was filed by Rohit Rana on February 17, alleging that a man named Deepak Anand defrauded him of ₹23,500 under the pretense of arranging a legal adoption for a newborn. Following the complaint, the police filed an FIR and initiated an investigation that quickly led to the arrest of Anand, a 40-year-old resident of Jalandhar, Punjab, who had been residing in Kangra. This arrest marked the beginning of the police's crackdown on the broader trafficking network.

SP Mayank Chaudhary has reported that Deepak Anand has been presented in court. The investigation reveals that the gang operated through illegal means to acquire newborns and sold them to couples unable to conceive, raising serious questions about the safety and rights of vulnerable children. The implications of these arrests are significant as they expose the extent of human trafficking in the region and stress the need for stronger protective measures for children and greater regulation of adoption practices in India.
