A shocking case of alleged human trafficking involving a newborn girl in Ludhiana, Punjab has come to light after locals became suspicious of a woman carrying the infant.

In Ludhiana, Punjab, a shocking incident of alleged human trafficking involving a newborn baby has been revealed thanks to the vigilance of local residents near CMC Chowk. According to eyewitness accounts, a woman was spotted walking around with a crying newborn, which raised suspicions among those nearby. Upon questioning her, she allegedly confessed to having purchased the baby for ₹2.10 lakh. It was reported that the woman came to Ludhiana from the Moga district.

As soon as the information was received, the police from Division Number 3 arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation. ASI Gurmel Singh mentioned that Sunita, a woman who had given birth to the child on February 14 at a private hospital near Baba Than Singh Chowk, was found to have previously had four daughters. The family was reportedly disappointed with the birth of a fifth daughter, which led them to decide to hand the baby over to someone else.

The police investigation revealed that Sunita had contacted a nurse at the hospital regarding the sale of the baby. Subsequent actions led to the arrest of eight individuals associated with this case. This distressing incident raises serious concerns about the undervaluation of girls in society and the ongoing issues surrounding child trafficking, particularly in regions where gender discrimination is significant.
