Carnival in Baixada Santista has distribution of condoms and HIV self-tests
The Carnaval in Baixada Santista will include campaigns aimed at preventing sexually transmitted infections by distributing condoms and HIV self-test kits.
The Carnaval celebration in the Baixada Santista region of São Paulo is implementing health campaigns to combat sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Cities including Guarujá, Bertioga, Itanhaém, Mongaguá, São Vicente, Praia Grande, and Cubatão will distribute condoms and kits containing HIV self-tests. This initiative emphasizes the importance of safe sexual practices, as STIs can primarily be transmitted through unprotected sexual contact, according to the Brazilian Ministry of Health.
In Guarujá, more than 300 kits will be provided, which include HIV self-testing kits, condoms, and lubricant, to be distributed through the Mobile Testing and Counseling Center (CTA) until February 20. Additionally, Guarujá offers free access to Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) at the CTA located in Jardim Boa Esperança, and Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) is made available at all Urgent Care Units and Emergency Rooms.
The health campaigns are scheduled alongside various Carnaval festivities, aimed at raising awareness among attendees. For instance, events and block parties are included in the schedule, promoting both the joy of Carnaval and the critical message of sexual health. The initiative is seen as a proactive approach to safeguarding public health during one of Brazil's most popular celebrations.
