Carnival is expected to bring up to 446,000 vehicles to Baixada Santista; check peak times on the roads
Baixada Santista is forecasted to experience a surge of between 290,000 and 446,000 vehicles during Carnival, leading to increased traffic and operational changes along major highways.
During the Carnival period from February 13 to 18, Baixada Santista, a coastal region in São Paulo, is anticipated to see a significant influx of vehicles, estimated between 290,000 and 446,000 according to Ecovias, the company managing the Anchieta-Imigrantes System. These highways serve as a key connection between the capital city and the coastline, making them crucial during this busy holiday season. As the demand for travel increases, specific traffic management operations will be implemented to handle the expected volume.
Traffic flow is expected to peak during specific times, with a significant rise starting from 6 PM on Friday and continuing until Saturday evening. On Sunday, further congestion is expected, particularly between 7 AM and 3 PM. To manage this surge, the Operational Descida (7x3) will be activated, allowing more lanes to be available for vehicles traveling towards the coast on the Anchieta and Imigrantes highways. This measure aims to facilitate the safe and efficient movement of people heading to Carnival celebrations.
On the return journey to the capital, peak traffic conditions are anticipated on Monday and Tuesday, with intensified backups between 3 PM and 10 PM on the first day and from 9 AM to 11 PM on the second day. During this time, the Operação Subida (2x8) will be in effect, adjusting the flow of traffic to ensure that those returning from the festivities can do so with as little delay as possible, highlighting the significance of this holiday travel in the region.
