The gas hazard at the site of the accident on the Ķekava bypass has been eliminated

Firefighters have successfully managed the gas hazard following a multi-vehicle collision on the Ķekava bypass in Latvia.

Firefighters from the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) concluded their work on the Ķekava bypass early this morning after handling a significant gas hazard caused by a collision involving nine vehicles. The accident, which took place yesterday morning along the Bauska highway (A7), involved a gas tanker that overturned after leaving the road. Thankfully, by 4:28 AM this morning, the hazardous situation had been resolved, as the gas leaking from the tanker was successfully transferred to another tanker by the employees of SIA 'Latvijas propāna gāze'.

Bauska highway is an important thoroughfare, and the incident raised immediate safety concerns given the nature of the cargo involved. An operational headquarters was established at the scene to coordinate the response to the accident, with representatives from various emergency services, including VUGD and the State Emergency Medical Service (NMPD), participating in the operation. Their quick actions helped mitigate any potential risks to the public and ensured that traffic could be restored safely.

This incident highlights the critical role of emergency services in managing hazardous situations on roads. It also serves as a reminder of the dangers posed by transporting flammable gases and the importance of effective emergency response mechanisms. The successful resolution of this incident without further complications is a testament to the preparedness and coordination of Latvian emergency responders.
