Traffic closed on the Ķekava bypass section after an eight-car collision, six people hospitalized

A significant traffic accident involving eight vehicles on the Ķekava bypass has led to road closures and six individuals being hospitalized.

A severe traffic accident occurred on the Ķekava bypass section of the Bauskas highway (A7), specifically at the 18-kilometer mark, between Baloži and the Riga bypass. Following the collision of eight vehicles, which included six passenger cars and two trucks, authorities announced that traffic would be rerouted through Ķekava. Notably, one of the trucks, a gas transporter, ended up in a ditch due to the impact, causing further concern regarding hazardous materials on the road.

The State Police informed news agency LETA that the serious nature of the accident has led to extended road closures on the Ķekava bypass for an indeterminate period. As a result, traffic is being redirected through the former Bauskas highway on the route of Lapnieki–Ķekava–Ģūģi (P137). Emergency services have been deployed to the scene to address the situation, assisting with the aftermath of the crash.

Emergency responders, including the State Fire and Rescue Service, confirmed that one of the trucks had overturned in the ditch, raising safety concerns for those first on the scene. The incident highlights ongoing challenges with traffic safety on this busy roadway, prompting calls for further investigation into traffic management and safety protocols to prevent such accidents in the future.
