Collision of six passenger cars and two trucks blocks the Ķekava bypass road
A collision involving eight vehicles, including six passenger cars and two trucks, has blocked the Ķekava bypass road in Latvia, causing significant traffic disruptions.
A serious traffic accident occurred on the Ķekava bypass road (A7) near the 18th kilometer between Baloži and the Riga bypass, involving a total of eight vehicles—six passenger cars and two trucks. According to the State Police in Latvia, one of the trucks veered into a ditch as a result of the collision. The incident has led to the closure of the road in the direction of Bauska, with authorities advising drivers to find alternate routes via the Lapenieki-ķekava-Ģūģi road (P137).
The State Fire-fighting and Rescue Service (VUGD) reported that the truck that ended up in the ditch has overturned, resulting in a gas leak from the vehicle. Emergency services, including the State Police, VUGD, the Emergency Medical Service, and local police, are currently on-site managing the situation and ensuring public safety.
This accident raises concerns over road safety and the efficiency of emergency response in Latvia, particularly on busy thoroughfares. It also highlights the potential hazards of transporting goods via trucks, especially in adverse weather conditions or on congested roads, underscoring the importance of regular safety checks and maintenance for vehicles on the road.
