Gas pumped from overturned vehicle on Ķekava bypass, traffic restored

Gas was successfully pumped from an overturned transport truck on the Ķekava bypass after a multi-vehicle collision caused the truck to tip over, leading to a gas leak.

On Sunday morning, a serious multi-vehicle collision occurred on the Bauskas highway (A7) at the 18th kilometer near the Ķekava bypass, between Katlakalns and the Riga bypass. The incident involved a gas tanker truck that veered off the road and overturned, resulting in a gas leak. Emergency response teams promptly organized the operation to recover the truck and contain the leak, with workers from SIA "Latvijas propāna gāze" (Latvian Propane Gas) managing the gas transfer to a safe tank.

To effectively coordinate the cleanup efforts and mobilize necessary resources, an operational headquarters was established at the scene, comprising representatives from multiple agencies including the Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD), Emergency Medical Service (NMPD), State Police, and local police. The response also included personnel from AS "Sadales tīkls" and the road traffic safety authority, indicating the seriousness of the incident and the collaborative effort required to ensure public safety.

After the successful pumping of gas from the damaged tank into another tanker, traffic on the Ķekava bypass was restored. This incident underscores the importance of swift and coordinated emergency responses to road accidents involving hazardous materials to minimize risks to public safety and ensure efficient traffic management following such events.
