Double Hoy No Circula activated due to environmental contingency in the Valley of Mexico | Monday, February 16

The Environmental Commission of the Megalopolis has activated a Double Hoy No Circula program to reduce pollution in the Valley of Mexico due to an environmental contingency.

The Environmental Commission of the Megalopolis (CAMe) has declared an environmental contingency in the Valley of Mexico as of the afternoon of February 15. This measure is a response to rising pollution levels that pose a health risk to the population in the region. To address this issue, the commission has enforced the Double Hoy No Circula program, aimed at restricting vehicular movement to mitigate the impact of contaminants in the air.

Starting Monday, February 16, specific vehicles will be banned from circulating between 5:00 AM and 10:00 PM. The restrictions apply to private vehicles with verification sticker 2 as well as those with sticker 1 ending in certain odd numbers. Additionally, vehicles with verification stickers 0 and 00 that have yellow decals and license plates ending in 5 or 6 will also be prohibited from circulation. This initiative is part of a broader effort to improve air quality and minimize health hazards for residents in Mexico City and nearby municipalities.

This activation of the Doble Hoy No Circula program underscores the urgent challenge of air pollution in urban areas, particularly in Mexico City, which frequently experiences high levels of smog that can lead to serious health complications. Such contingencies often trigger public concern and discussions about longer-term solutions, including sustainable transportation options and further regulatory measures to combat vehicular emissions.
