Double Hoy No Circula February 13: These vehicles are NOT allowed to circulate due to environmental contingency in Mexico City and Edomex
The Environmental Commission of the Megalopolis has declared an environmental contingency due to poor air quality in Mexico Valley, leading to the activation of the Doble Hoy No Circula program.
On February 13, the Environmental Commission of the Megalopolis (CAMe) announced an environmental contingency in the Mexico Valley due to the high concentration of pollutants affecting air quality. This situation prompted the implementation of the 'Doble Hoy No Circula' program in Mexico City and surrounding municipalities in the State of Mexico to mitigate the emission of harmful pollutants and safeguard public health. The measure aims to limit the number of vehicles on the road in order to improve air quality during critical pollution periods.
The Doble Hoy No Circula program restricts the circulation of specific vehicles based on their verification hologram. Vehicles bearing a verification hologram of category 2, as well as those with a hologram 1 whose license plate ends with the digits 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, or 0, are prohibited from circulating. Additionally, vehicles with holograms 0 and 00, as well as blue-stickered vehicles with plates ending in 9 or 0, also face restrictions. Older cars, new vehicles undergoing inspection, or those with license plates made up of only letters are subjected to the same rules as those with the category 2 hologram, thereby ensuring a comprehensive approach to reducing road emissions.
Moreover, the program also regulates the distribution of liquefied petroleum gas (LP) by limiting 50% of the units to stationary tanks that do not have a specific valve. This broader strategy underscores the urgency of addressing air quality issues and highlights the measures being taken by the authorities to protect the health of residents in the Mexico City Metropolitan Area, effectively emphasizing the role of public policy in tackling environmental crises in urban areas.
