Convicted to 5 years in prison for robbery is arrested on an avenue in Teresina

A man condemned to over five years in prison for robbery was arrested in Teresina while among homeless individuals.

Jhony Albino Ribeiro, a 35-year-old man, was arrested early Sunday morning on Avenida Marechal Castelo Branco in the eastern zone of Teresina. He is serving a sentence of 5 years and 5 months for a robbery he committed in 2018 when he stole from an individual on the street. Authorities are currently seeking comment from his defense attorney regarding the case.

According to Tales Gomes, a police delegate from the Specialized Police Operations Department, Ribeiro was found among people experiencing homelessness at the GregΓ³rio Motorist monument when he was approached and identified by civil police officers. His method of blending in with determined individuals likely contributed to his evasion of capture until that moment.

Following his identification, Ribeiro was taken to the Central Flagrantes for legal processing before being transferred to serve his prison sentence. This incident underscores the ongoing challenges of addressing crime and homelessness in urban areas of Brazil, as well as the efforts of local law enforcement to apprehend individuals with pending criminal convictions.
