Twelfth Graders Select State Maturity Exams

Twelfth graders in Lithuania have an extended deadline this year to choose their state maturity exams, accompanied by a new electronic system for managing their choices.

In Lithuania, twelfth graders are facing a pivotal moment in their education as they prepare for state maturity exams. This academic year, the deadline for selecting which exams to take has been postponed, providing students with more time to assess university requirements and make informed choices about their future. The head of the National Education Agency, Simonas Å abanovas, highlighted that the new timeline is meant to give students ample opportunity to navigate their options regarding higher education and select exams that align with their aspirations.

A significant innovation this year is the introduction of an open electronic system that allows students to view and confirm their exam registrations. This system is designed to streamline the process, enabling students to check their selections and report any discrepancies to their school authorities by February 25. After this date, students will no longer have the ability to modify or adjust their selected exams, emphasizing the importance of careful decision-making in this crucial phase of their education.

Students can choose to take as many exams as they wish, with no restrictions on the number of optional subjects they can select. However, to obtain their maturity certificate, all students must successfully pass two core exams. This process not only reflects the shift towards a more accessible educational framework but also highlights the necessity for students to engage actively in their educational planning, thereby shaping their paths toward higher learning institutions in Lithuania.
