Ambato opens the Festival of Flowers and Fruits with a giant allegory of 140 meters and a call for unity

The city of Ambato in Ecuador celebrated the Festival of Flowers and Fruits, featuring a 140-meter allegory emphasizing unity and regional representation.

This Saturday, February 14, Ambato, Ecuador, kicked off the Festival of Flowers and Fruits (FFF) with a ceremonial mass held at the cathedral's atrium. The festival, which celebrates its diamond anniversary this year, began as a way to uplift the community following the devastating earthquake of August 5, 1949. This year's event underscores the theme 'Let all be one,' which reflects a call for unity among the diverse regions of Ecuador.

At the heart of the festivities is a spectacular allegory measuring approximately 140 square meters, meticulously crafted from natural fruits, flowers, seeds, bread, and dried grains. Dominating the design is a cross inscribed with the word 'communion', serving as a symbol of connection and togetherness for attendees. Surrounding the cross are four circles that represent Ecuador's coastal, highland, Amazonian, and insular regions, featuring large representations such as a giant turtle, mountains, a whale, and a toucan, which highlight the country's rich cultural and geographic diversity.

The Festival of Flowers and Fruits is not only a moment of celebration, but it also serves as an important cultural heritage event for the city of Ambato. Each year, it draws thousands of visitors who partake in the festivities that showcase local traditions, gastronomy, and artistic expressions. The emphasis on unity in this year’s theme resonates deeply within the community, fostering a spirit of togetherness that transcends individual differences and celebrates the shared identity of Ecuadorians.
