Main highway in the country, Via Dutra, has potholes and pavement flaws in Vale do Paraíba; see VIDEO
Drivers on the President Dutra Highway are facing increased problems due to potholes and pavement failures, especially with the rush of vehicles expected during Carnival.
The President Dutra Highway, a crucial route in Brazil, particularly in the Vale do Paraíba region, has been reported to have numerous potholes and pavement defects that are causing significant inconvenience to drivers. As the country approaches the Carnival holiday, which is anticipated to see around 600,000 vehicles using the highway, these issues raise concerns about safety and traffic flow. A team from TV Vanguarda documented various potholes on both sides of the highway between Taubaté and Cachoeira Paulista, highlighting the urgent need for repairs.
The situation is exacerbated near the Moreira César toll plaza, where potholes are notably present right before toll collections. Drivers are currently paying a toll of R$ 16.90, yet they are met with hazardous roadway conditions. In one incident, a motorist named David Renan had his tire punctured after hitting a pothole at night while returning from São Paulo. This incident not only highlights the risks posed to drivers but also underscores the broader implications regarding maintenance and infrastructure priorities.
Given that this section of highway is essential for intercity connectivity, the reported deterioration calls for immediate attention from both local authorities and the concessionaire managing the road. The impact of such infrastructure failures during peak travel times like Carnival could lead to accidents and further complicate traffic conditions, highlighting the importance of timely road maintenance efforts to ensure safety and efficiency for all users.
