Departure for Carnival: see the expected movement on the highways of Vale do Paraíba and region and peak times

Traffic is expected to become heavy in the Vale do Paraíba and Litoral Norte regions of Brazil as people depart for Carnival, with peak times identified.

As Brazil approaches the Carnival season, traffic is expected to intensify starting Friday, February 13, on the highways that traverse the Vale do Paraíba and Litoral Norte regions. Major highways like the Presidente Dutra and Rio-Santos are projected to see significant increases in vehicle volume, with an estimated 600,000 vehicles expected to use these routes during the festivities. This surge is attributed to travelers heading to various Carnival celebrations across the country.

Peak traffic times have been communicated by highway concessionaires, notably on the Presidente Dutra where congestion is anticipated on Friday from 7 AM to 9 PM and Saturday from 7 AM to 4 PM. Additionally, the Rio-Santos highway will experience elevated traffic, with around 125,000 vehicles projected, coinciding with similar peak times. These time frames are crucial for drivers to consider when planning their trips to avoid excessive delays.

The Rodovia dos Tamoios, which provides access to Litoral Norte, is also expected to see increased traffic starting Friday afternoon. Travelers are advised to remain alert for possible delays due to the influx of vehicles and to expect a busy travel period throughout the Carnival holiday, which is a peak time for road travel in Brazil as people participate in festivities nationwide.
