DER-PB says that section of highway considered the third worst in the country may have been affected by rain

The Department of Highways of Paraíba (DER-PB) has stated that a highway section ranked as the third worst in Brazil may have been negatively impacted by recent heavy rains, although the current state of the road is reported to be good.

The PB-066 highway, connecting the municipalities of Ingá and Itambé in Pernambuco, has been identified as one of the worst highway segments in Brazil, specifically ranked as the third worst in a recent national assessment. This alarming classification has prompted the Department of Highways in Paraíba (DER-PB) to respond, noting that the highway’s poor condition may have been exacerbated by intensive rainfall experienced in the state, which impeded maintenance and repair work. DER-PB emphasized that during periods of heavy rainfall, it becomes technically unfeasible to carry out paving and maintenance activities, leading to potential public resource waste since the wet conditions hinder asphalt adherence and curing processes.
