Return of Carnival: see expectations for vehicle flow and peak times on highways in Vale and region

The post-Carnival period is anticipated to cause heavy traffic on the main highways in the Vale do Paraíba and Litoral Norte regions of Brazil, with specific peak times advised.

As the Carnival holiday comes to an end, intense traffic is expected on the main highways cutting through the Vale do Paraíba and the North Coast of Brazil. The Department of Highways (DER) estimates around 65,000 vehicles will travel along the Oswaldo Cruz Highway over the Carnival period, particularly on the ascent to Ubatuba. In addition, the Floriano Rodrigues Pinheiro Highway, the main access route to Campos do Jordão, is projected to handle about 103,000 vehicles during this time.

The DER has provided recommendations to minimize congestion for those still planning to travel. Key timing guidance includes avoiding the highways on Tuesday, February 17, between midnight and 9 AM and between 10 PM and midnight, as well as on Wednesday, February 18, between midnight and 7 AM and again between 9 PM and midnight. These recommendations come as a response to the expected surge in traffic as people return from their Carnival celebrations.

Moreover, according to CCR Motiva, the concessionaire managing the Presidente Dutra Highway and the Rio-Santos Highway, a significant traffic volume is anticipated during the return from the holiday period. This period, spanning from February 13 to 18, is crucial for travel in the region, emphasizing the need for travelers to plan their journeys considering these peak times for a smoother return from festivities.
