Military Police increases personnel to ensure safety during Carnival in Santarém and region

The Military Police in Brazil has intensified its security operations for the Carnival season in Santarém and nearby municipalities.

The Military Police of Pará has ramped up its patrols and security measures across Santarém and three surrounding municipalities to ensure public safety during the Carnival festivities. The actions were initiated well in advance of the peak days of celebration, indicating a proactive approach to managing the large crowds associated with this popular event. Specific strategies include increased visibility at key event locations, rigorous inspections in crowded areas, and enhanced policing on state highways.

Colonel Rodrigo Aleixo, commander of the CPR-1 unit, outlined that each police unit has developed its own security plan that was subsequently consolidated into a comprehensive regional strategy. With an emphasis on addressing the unique needs of each community, the police plan aims to exceed regular precautionary measures, including additional shifts and deployments in towns like Óbidos and Oriximiná. The concerted planning effort underscores the importance of safety during one of Brazil's most significant cultural events.

Santarém will particularly benefit from heightened security due to the city’s extensive programming along the waterfront, in neighborhoods, and at well-known tourist destination Alter do Chão. This increased focus on the area reflects the potential challenges posed by large crowds and the necessity of ensuring a safe environment for both locals and visitors during the Carnival celebrations, as the region expects an influx of festivities enthusiasts.
