Unsettled weather arrives in Lithuania: rain, ice, and strong gusts of wind

Unsettled weather is expected in Lithuania, with rain and snow impacting different regions, as well as the formation of ice and strong winds.

Lithuania is bracing for a mix of unsettling weather patterns, with southern regions expected to see rain resembling early spring while central areas are forecasted to experience sleet. In the north, wintery conditions will prevail, with substantial snowfall anticipated. As temperatures drop, the formation of both rain glaze and black ice will create slippery conditions, necessitating caution for residents moving about in these areas.

Wind forecasts indicate a shift to easterly breezes across much of the country, which will strengthen from 8 to 13 meters per second, particularly in the northwest regions where gusts could reach up to 15 meters per second, potentially leading to snowdrifts and blizzards. Meanwhile, temperatures are expected to vary widely, with northern Lithuania experiencing severe cold ranging from -1 to -7 degrees Celsius, contrasting with milder temperatures of 0 to +4 degrees in the south.

As forecast is made for Saturday, the cyclone responsible for these shifts will begin to retract; however, ongoing precipitation is still anticipated in many areas, albeit lighter than in previous days. Residents should prepare for the possibility of brief snow showers or rain, especially in Eastern Lithuania, and remain vigilant against ice formation on roads and sidewalks as the temperature drops further overnight to between -5 and -10 degrees Celsius, especially in northern regions.
