Duo arrested with smartphones hidden in car in the interior of SP
Two men were arrested in Ourinhos, São Paulo, with over 50 smartphones hidden in the lining of their car by the Federal Highway Police (PRF).
In an incident reported on Wednesday, the Federal Highway Police (PRF) arrested two men in Ourinhos, São Paulo, for attempting to transport more than 50 smartphones hidden in the lining of their vehicle. The arrest occurred at the junction of the Transbrasiliana Highway (BR-153) with the Raposo Tavares Highway (SP-270), following intelligence alerts about suspicious activity. During the approach, officers noticed signs of nervousness and inconsistencies in the explanations given by both the driver and passenger. They claimed that the smartphones were purchased in Paraguay. Upon inspecting the car, police discovered signs of tampering with the door linings, ultimately uncovering 52 devices hidden within the internal cavities of the vehicle, along with an additional two located in the glove compartment. The suspects admitted to being paid to transport the smartphones. The PRF has stated that this operation highlights ongoing smuggling activities in the region, emphasizing the importance of vigilance and intelligence work in combating such illegal transportation of goods, which poses a risk to local markets and economies.
