PRF seizes 30 imported cell phones without invoices inside a car in São Sebastião
Federal Highway Police in Brazil seized 30 iPhones without invoices from a car in São Sebastião, Alagoas, after the driver tried to evade a checkpoint.
On the night of Tuesday, the 17th, the Federal Highway Police (PRF) apprehended 30 imported iPhones lacking invoices during a routine operation in São Sebastião, a town in the interior of Alagoas, Brazil. The incident occurred when officers noticed a vehicle attempting to take an alternate route upon seeing the PRF checkpoint, prompting them to stop the driver for questioning.
During the stop, the driver explained that he was returning from Sergipe and heading towards Maceió, the capital of Alagoas. Upon further interrogation regarding his evasive actions, he admitted to transporting the phones illegally without the necessary fiscal documentation. The PRF flagged this as a violation of import regulations, which mandates that items must be accompanied by proper invoices to verify their legal entry into the market.
The driver and the seized phones were subsequently taken to the PRF's headquarters in the Jaraguá neighborhood, where the phones are now being held pending legal proceedings. This case highlights the ongoing issues of illegal imports and the efforts of Brazilian authorities to combat such activities and uphold tax regulations in the commerce sector.
