VIDEO: Couple arrested by the PRF with 140 thousand dollars hidden in a car compartment in RS
A couple was arrested in Brazil with 140 thousand dollars hidden in a compartment in their car during a police inspection.
A couple was arrested by the Federal Highway Police (PRF) in Brazil with 140 thousand dollars, equivalent to approximately 730 thousand Brazilian Reais, discovered in a hidden compartment of their vehicle. The arrest occurred on the afternoon of Monday, the 16th, during a routine inspection on the BR-285 in São Borja, located in the Western Frontier region of Rio Grande do Sul. Upon stopping the car registered in São Borja, police officers found the concealed compartment containing the significant amount of cash.
Neither the man, aged 39, from Itaqui, nor the woman, aged 28, from São Borja, could provide evidence of the origin of the money, leading to their detention. They were arrested for the crime of illegally bringing foreign currency into Brazil. Following their arrest, both individuals, along with their vehicle and the cash, were taken into custody by the police, highlighting ongoing efforts to control illegal monetary transactions at the border.
This incident underscores the vigilance and effectiveness of the PRF in monitoring traffic and enforcing laws against the smuggling of foreign currency. Such operations are crucial, especially in border regions where illegal activities like money laundering and smuggling are prevalent. The couple's inability to justify their possession of such a large sum adds another layer to the investigation, potentially leading to further scrutiny of their financial activities and connections.
