The Military Highway Police seized a load of 410 iPhones worth R$ 1.6 million in Angatuba, São Paulo, during an operation against drug trafficking.
On Saturday evening, the Military Highway Police in Brazil seized a significant quantity of iPhones valued at R$ 1.6 million during a traffic operation in Angatuba, São Paulo. A total of 410 iPhones were found concealed in three bags within the cabin of a truck registered in Paraguay. This operation was part of a broader initiative aimed at combating drug trafficking in the region.
Among the seized iPhones, 45 were new iPhone 17 models still sealed in their packaging, while the remaining 365 devices were refurbished models of various types. The police have indicated that such operations not only target the illegal drug trade but also aim to uncover other forms of smuggling and trafficking, highlighting the interconnectedness of organized crime in Brazil.
The driver of the truck was arrested in the act and taken to the Federal Police station in Sorocaba, along with the seized merchandise and vehicle. This incident underscores the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in tackling smuggling operations that are often linked to more extensive criminal networks, particularly in border regions like that of Brazil and Paraguay.
