Second suspect in the death of woman shot inside car on BR-316 arrested in Teresina

An 18-year-old suspect linked to the murder of Jaqueline Lima de Araújo, shot in December 2025, has been arrested in Teresina, Brazil.

João Henrique dos Santos Lima, an 18-year-old, was apprehended on the morning of January 12 in the Southern Zone of Teresina. He is suspected of being involved in the murder of Jaqueline Lima de Araújo, who was struck by a stray bullet in December 2025 while in her car on BR-316, a significant roadway in the area. The arrest was conducted by the Department of Homicide and Person Protection (DHPP) at his residence in the Porto Alegre neighborhood.

According to Detective Nathália Figueiredo, who is part of the DHPP’s Feminicide Unit, João Henrique was allegedly driving the motorcycle from which the shots were fired at the time of the incident. Previously, on January 9, another suspect, Luís Augusto Pessoa Sousa, identified as the passenger on the motorbike, had also been arrested. Figueiredo detailed that during the attempted robbery, Jaqueline was tragically shot, highlighting the violent nature of the crime that has drawn attention in the local community.

Following his arrest, João Henrique has been taken to the DHPP headquarters for the necessary legal procedures. The case has raised significant public concern regarding street violence and the ongoing crime wave affecting the region, particularly crimes involving motorcycles, which have become increasingly prevalent in robberies and assaults against unsuspecting victims in Teresina.
