Duo indicted for the robbery murder of a young woman shot in a car on BR-316 in Teresina

Two men have been indicted for the robbery murder of Jaqueline Lima de Araújo, who was shot while in a car on BR-316 in Teresina.

The Department of Homicide and Protection to the Person (DHPP) has concluded its investigation into the tragic death of 29-year-old Jaqueline Lima de Araújo, who was struck by a stray bullet while inside a car on BR-316 in Teresina in December 2025. The indicted individuals, Luís Augusto Pessoa Sousa and João Henrique do Santos Lima, have been charged with latrocínio, a form of robbery that results in a fatality. The investigation began after the incident spurred public outrage and concern for safety in the area.

Delegada Nathália Figueiredo, from the Feminicide Unit of the DHPP, reported that Luís Augusto was the first to be identified through surveillance images obtained from the Smart Policing Intelligence System (SPIA). Following the successful identification, law enforcement executed a temporary arrest warrant for him, during which investigators were able to extract information from his mobile phone, revealing crucial details linked to João Henrique, who was identified as the motorcycle rider involved in the crime. This highlights the value of technological surveillance in modern criminal investigations.

Further analysis of Luís Augusto's phone revealed conversations confirming that he and his accomplice were armed with a real firearm, contradicting initial assumptions that they were using a replica. This somber revelation not only underscores the severity of their actions during the robbery but also raises alarming questions about the prevalence of armed crime in the region. The indictment of the two men comes amidst increasing calls for safety measures and systemic reforms to address violent crime in Teresina and beyond.
