Second suspect in the death of merchant arrested in Teresina; victim was killed by stones
A second suspect has been arrested in the murder case of a merchant in Teresina, Brazil, who was killed by being struck with stones.
Pedro Henrique da Silva was arrested in Teresina on Wednesday morning as a suspect in the murder of 64-year-old merchant Joildo Sousa Furtado. According to local police, Silva had a known relationship with the victim and may have masterminded the crime. Another suspect, Wlandernilson de Sousa Cerqueira, was apprehended back in February, while two minors are also believed to have been directly involved in the homicide.
Investigation reports suggest that on October 24, a group of four individuals invaded Furtado's residence, which also served as his business, in the rural area of Lagoinha do PiauΓ. The victim was found dead with severe head injuries indicative of being struck with stones. Additionally, the suspects ransacked Furtado's home and stole his vehicle, which was later recovered by the authorities.
The arrest of Pedro Henrique highlights the ongoing investigation led by the Homicide and Personal Protection Department (DHPP) in Teresina. The identification and apprehension of multiple suspects underscore a troubling trend of violent crimes against merchants and business owners in the region, prompting calls for increased security measures and community vigilance to prevent similar incidents in the future.
