Vilnius Invites to Celebrate February 16th United: From Youth March to Traditional Freedom Bonfires
Vilnius will celebrate the Day of Restoration of the State of Lithuania with a youth march and traditional bonfires to emphasize unity and the continuation of national heritage.
On the morning of February 16th, Vilnius will host the traditional youth march called 'Lithuanian State Road,' marking the 10th iteration of this significant event. The symbolic journey will take participants from Cathedral Square to Rasos Cemetery, highlighting key locations in Lithuania's statehood history. This event serves as a poignant reminder that a nation thrives through the recognition and celebration of its history by the younger generation.
In a statement about the festivities, Tomas Jankūnas, the principal of Antakalnis Gymnasium who will lead students in the march, emphasized the importance of honoring the nation's freedom. He expressed gratitude to both the youth and the older generations for their commitment to preserving the essence of Lithuania—through education, storytelling of the nation’s past, and nurturing the Lithuanian language and traditions. The event is framed as a collective act of love and unity for the homeland, showcasing how these traditions connect generations.
As participants gather at 10 am in Vilnius, the march is expected to not only rekindle patriotism but also serve as a tribute to those who fought for Lithuania's freedom, as well as to individuals who continually safeguard it. This celebration is an embodiment of Lithuanians' dedication to their national identity and pride, highlighting the role of youth in the ongoing narrative of Lithuania’s history.
