The Nigeria Customs Service has pledged to eliminate non-tariff barriers to support the onion sector valued at N1.17 trillion during a visit by stakeholders.
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has emphasized its commitment to supporting the onion industry in Nigeria, which is valued at approximately N1.17 trillion, by removing non-tariff barriers that hinder exports. During a recent visit by the Regional Observatory of Onion in West and Central Africa, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, assured farmers and stakeholders of their dedication to addressing operational challenges within the export framework.
Adeniyi highlighted the importance of collaborating with various government agencies to foster a conducive environment for trade, especially for export-driven enterprises focusing on onions. His statement reflects an acknowledgment of the significant economic value that the onion sector contributes to Nigeria, which emphasizes the need for regulatory support and seamless operational processes to enhance export capabilities.
This initiative could potentially stabilize and grow the onion industry by ensuring that farmers and exporters have the necessary support and infrastructure to thrive. With the NCS backing, stakeholders may be encouraged to invest more in production and exportation, ultimately benefiting the economy as they navigate the complexities of exporting agricultural products.
