NIMC mobilizes for national identity registration
The National Identity Management Commission has launched a national enrollment drive for the National Identification Number across Nigeria.
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) in Nigeria has begun its Ward-Level Enrolment Drive, which officially started on February 16, 2026. This initiative allows citizens and residents to register for their National Identification Number (NIN) at designated centers in their wards. The campaign aims to enhance accessibility and ensure that all Nigerians are able to obtain their NIN, which is essential for accessing vital government services in the country.
In a statement, NIMC emphasized the importance of the NIN as a foundational requirement for various government services, urging citizens who have not yet enrolled to take part in this initiative. Dr. Kayode Adegoke, Head of Corporate Communications, advised the public to utilize the NIMC website to locate their nearest enrolment centers. He also highlighted the need for cooperation with NIMC officials, accuracy in the information provided during the registration process, and following official communication channels for the most accurate updates.
The NIMC has made provisions for pre-enrolment services through its online platform penrol.nimc.gov.ng, and it has also facilitated data modifications to ensure that citizens can manage their information efficiently. This enrollment drive not only aims to increase the number of registered individuals but also seeks to streamline access to essential services, reflecting the government's commitment to improving civic engagement and service delivery in Nigeria.
