Floriano Rodrigues Pinheiro Highway reopens after more than 40 hours of closure due to flooding in Taubaté

The Floriano Rodrigues Pinheiro Highway has reopened after being closed for over 40 hours due to flooding caused by the overflowing of a nearby stream.

The Floriano Rodrigues Pinheiro Highway (SP-123) in Taubaté, Brazil, was reopened on Wednesday afternoon after being closed for more than 40 hours due to flooding. The closure began late at night on Monday, when authorities identified flooding at km 1.5 of the highway, triggered by the overflow of a nearby creek. This highway serves as the main access route to Campos do Jordão, a popular destination in the Mantiqueira mountain range, making its accessibility crucial for local traffic.

In response to the flooding, the Department of Highways (DER) mobilized multiple teams for the cleanup and clearing operations. The efforts included the deployment of six trucks, a hydraulic excavator, and tow trucks from the Basic Care Unit of the department, focused on removing debris and restoring the roadway to safe conditions. Support was also provided by the Civil Defense and the Military Police, indicating a coordinated response to the traffic disruption caused by the natural event.

The reopening of the highway is significant not only for locals and tourists but also for regional logistics, ensuring the resumption of traffic flows crucial for economic activities. With the highway now cleared, authorities will continue monitoring weather conditions and water levels in nearby rivers and streams to prevent similar incidents in the future.
