Flooding blocks the highway that connects Taubaté to Campos do Jordão (SP)
Heavy rains have caused flooding that has blocked the highway between Taubaté and Campos do Jordão, leading to a complete closure of the road.
The Floriano Rodrigues Pinheiro highway (SP 123), which connects Taubaté to Campos do Jordão, has been closed since Tuesday, October 10, due to severe flooding caused by heavy rains the day before. The flooding occurred near kilometer 1.5 of the highway, where overflowing from a nearby creek led to significant water accumulation on the road, resulting in a total blockade.
The Department of Highways (DER) reported that alternative routes are available for motorists, specifically directing them to the Vito Ardito highway (SP 062), which serves as a detour. Fortunately, there have been no reports of traffic congestion in the area, but the situation necessitated an immediate response from the authorities to ensure safety and manage the disruption caused by the flooding.
DER crews are actively working on the site with heavy machinery, including an excavator and two trucks, to clear the road and restore access. However, there is currently no estimated timeframe for when the highway will reopen, leaving local travelers and transport services to adapt to the detour until further notice.
