Rains Slow Down MA-320 Construction in the Vale do Pindaré
Construction on the MA-320 highway in the Vale do Pindaré is progressing slowly due to heavy rains in the region.
The MA-320 highway duplication project in the Vale do Pindaré, located in central Maranhão, Brazil, is facing significant delays due to the heavy rains that have begun in the area. This highway connects the municipalities of Santa Inês and Pindaré-Mirim, situated about 250 to 255 kilometers from the state capital, São Luís. The project aims to duplicate a little over five kilometers of the 11-kilometer highway and has a budget exceeding R$ 50 million, with an expected completion period of 15 months, starting from December 2024.
As the rainy season affects the worksite, difficulties have arisen with water pooling in areas where grading has started, hampering progress significantly. After a prolonged dry spell, the return of the rain has presented challenges for construction teams, who are trying to manage the adverse weather conditions while adhering to timelines. The slow pace of construction has implications for local traffic, as the highway is vital for connecting these two municipalities.
Despite the short distance between Santa Inês and Pindaré-Mirim, the area experiences heavy traffic, which has been exacerbated during this period of construction delay. Local authorities and residents are likely feeling the impact of both the intense weather and the extended duration of the construction work, highlighting the need for effective project management in response to weather challenges in infrastructure development.
