Pindamonhangaba City Hall demands urgent improvements on the Dutra highway
The mayor of Pindamonhangaba has requested urgent maintenance on the President Dutra Highway due to safety concerns for drivers.
Ricardo Piorino, the mayor of Pindamonhangaba, Brazil, has formally reached out to the toll operator CCR RIOSP with urgent requests for maintenance and improvements on the President Dutra Highway, particularly in the Vale do Paraíba region. In his letter dated February 18, Piorino emphasized the need for repairs to asphalt that has become deformed in multiple sections, citing issues such as potholes and along the roadside that could endanger the safety of drivers. Additionally, he requested the cleaning and removal of overgrown vegetation in the central medians and along the highway's edges.
The proposed enhancements aim to bolster the safety of thousands of motorists who travel daily along the 402 kilometers of Brazil's main highway, with over 20 kilometers of this stretch specifically located in Pindamonhangaba. Given the heavy traffic, these repairs are viewed as vital to prevent accidents and ensure the road operates smoothly. Piorino’s initiatives highlight the local government's commitment to infrastructure maintenance and public safety.
In conjunction with his correspondence to CCR RIOSP, Piorino also sent documentation to the Public Prosecutor's Office to ensure they are aware of the requests made to the highway operator. This move underscores the critical nature of the situation, as it pertains to the preservation of lives on the road, ultimately aiming to secure the protection of drivers and passengers alike while facilitating a dialogue between the municipal administration and higher authorities regarding transportation safety.
